Yasmin Ahmad Passed Away In Damansara Specialist Hospital
Yasmin Admad Once Said:-
"I am optimistic and sentimental to the point of being annoying, especially to people who think that being cynical and cold is cool. Everyday, I thank Allah for everyday things like the ability to breathe, the ability to love, the ability to laugh, and the ability to eat and drink."
Critically acclaimed film and TV commercial director Yasmin Ahmad was in critical condition after collapsing during a presentation at TV3 on 23rd July 2009.
The 51-year-old filmmaker was in the ICU at Damansara Specialist Hospital, where she was admitted at 3.45pm.
According to Tan Kein Eng, the managing director of Leo Burnett Kuala Lumpur, Yasmin, who is the agency’s creative director, was at TV3 to discuss several projects, one of which involved Datuk Siti Nurhaliza and her husband, Datuk Khalid Muhammad Jiwa, who were also present.
"During the presentation, Yasmin felt unwell and had difficulty breathing. CPR was administered before she was taken to the hospital. But it was not true that she collapsed," said Tan when met at the hospital.
Yasmin, who gained prominence for a series of commercials touching on community messages for national gas and petroleum giant Petronas, began her career as a copywriter before rising to become a creative force in the advertising industry.
She was inducted along with seven others into the inaugural Malaysian Advertising Hall of Fame by the Association of Accredited Advertising Agents Malaysia.
She won the Asian Film Award at the Tokyo International Film Festival for the interracial love story, Sepet in 2004. Sepet and its sequel Gubra won the Best Film award at the Malaysian Film Festival in 2005 and 2006 respectively. Her other films include Mukhsin (2006), Muallaf (2008) and the recently released Talentime.
Yasmin was due to start shooting for a new project in Japan called Forget Me Not with a Japanese producer at the end of the year.
Yasmin, who ever she was, a lovely person with such a kind heart. As a filmmaker, I would say, she had delivered to us the Malaysia story from a perspective of a true Malaysian.
“The condition of critically-acclaimed movie and commercial director Yasmin Ahmad, who suffered a stroke last Thursday, has deteriorated.
Her brother-in-law, Datuk Dr Zakaria Zahari, said Yasmin remained on life support at the Damansara Specialist Hospital’s intensive care unit.
“The family appreciates continued prayers for Yasmin,” he said in a brief statement issued Saturday.
Dr Zakaria said the family had requested that no visitors congregate at the hospital.
Sadly our prayers for Yasmin, had not been able to retain her...........
Yasim was one of the best mind that we have got. Malaysia should be proud of her achievements, especially so in the making of those great Malaysian movies and the 29 seconds advertisements as seen on our TV.
Yasmin was one of a kind and we are going to miss her. Rest In Peace.
